 FAQ's
Why would an athlete work with a Mental Skills Coach?
Performing with consistency and under the pressure of competition is difficult. There are many factors that contribute to sport performance including mental skills, which are typically under-trained compared to technical, tactical and physical ones.  By using the tools and techniques of sport psychology to address specific performance related issues -- such as ability to deal with distractions, recover from mistakes and setbacks, manage performance anxiety and maintain optimal levels of motivation and confidence -- athletes can unlock their potential by helping the mind execute what the body has trained hard to do.  Beyond improving athletic performance and enjoyment of sport, these mental skills can be transferred to all parts of life. Mental skill training is appropriate for all ages (but I'd recommend 11 years and older) and all levels (recreational to professional).
How would we work together?
The first session we'll talk about your sport experience and we'll decide together which mental skills would be most beneficial for enhancing your sport performance and enjoyment. In the following sessions, we'll train these skills through activity-based learning.  Athletes will also be given weekly mental skill challenges to develop mental skill training.
Why would a sport parent work with a Mental Skills Coach?
Being a youth sport parent is tough!  Managing this competitive, high-pressure environment can be exhausting.  It's especially difficult to watch our children struggle and/or not have fun.  A mental skills coach can guide parents through this challenging process by helping to optimize support of their child's performance and enjoyment of sport.  Equally as important, learning sport psychology concepts, tools and techniques will also help parents build for themselves a more resilient mindset and confident approach to youth sports.
